Biography

Ni Fan, born in 1989, grew up in Peking in a family of musicians.

She took her first piano lessons at the age of 4 and started with percussion at 10. From 2001 until 2007 she studied percussion at „The Middle School“  in cooperation with the “Central Conservatory

 Of Music“ in Peking. She continued her bachelor studies with professor Biao Li at the Conservatory, where she graduated with honors.

In the years 2007-2010 Ni Fan has been awarded with the National Scholarship of China and has performed as Solo Timpanist with the “Youth Symphony Orchestra of China”.

She started her master studies 2010 at the Academy of Music Hanns Eisler in Berlin with Biao Li (solo percussion), Rainer Seegers (timpani) and Franz Schindlbeck (orchestra percussion). 

In 2011, Ni Fan has won the “Start up! Music” prize, awarded by the Society of Friends of the Academy Hanns Eisler, as well as a prize of the German Academy Exchange Service DAAD, and further the first and second Hanns Eisler Prize (together with others) for the composition and performance of contemporary music. Since 2013, Ni is holding a scholarship from Yehudi Menuhin Live Music Now Berlin e.V. together with her percussion partner Lukas Böhm and their duo Double Deats
